BioWare brings dark edge to lovable hedgehog
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. That’s a pretty ominous title for such a happy-go-lucky character. But I guess that’s what happens when one of the most renown RPG development houses gets ahold of the classic Sega franchise.
It’s a bizarre match to be sure, but BioWare’s new title for Nintendo DS is looking like a winner. The first hands-on previews of the game have begun to emerge, spilling a host of new details.
They appear to be doing everything right. There’s a ton of playable Sonic characters that will help you through the quest, each with their own unique attacks and abilities to be used in the turn-based combat system. The team has incorporated some traditional Sonic platforming elements as well.
From the look of things, the game appears to combine the successful Paper Mario formula for exploration and combat with a deeper dialog system that is more typical of past BioWare titles. Sonic will have multiple branching trees during conversations that will presumably lead to varying paths through the story.
Sonic + Paper Mario + BioWare. With that kind of pedigree, this game is at the top of my watch list for DS this fall.
