Gaming in 2020: Happy, social world
People just love to make predictions about the future, and while the guesses are rarely accurate, they are always entertaining to read.
A group of gaming experts recently described their vision for the industry 12-years from now. Among the big names were Atari founder Nolan Bushnell and EA Sports head Peter Moore. Now, normally I’d expect some significant insight from names like that, but here’s what we got instead:
“The way people will play games in the future is by getting together socially and making gaming a part of that experience, along with the beer and pizza,” according to Bushnell.
Moore says, “Games have a key role to play in health and wellness. People will be able to do things with games in their own houses that they just can’t do at the gym.” … “Games have the power to make people happy and to make the world a better place.”
Wow, I hate to say this, but it sounds like they are describing the Nintendo Wii RIGHT NOW! Honestly, you’d think these “visionaries” could come up with something a little deeper than “games make the world a better place,” while describing the ongoing social gaming phenomenon that we’re all familiar with.
Personally, I’m predicting a Star Trek-style holodeck in every home, brain to brain wireless network play and, of course, flying cars.
So, what are you expecting in the next 12 years?
