In this corner… the Wii balance board

Don KingIt has been announced that the Nintendo Wii edition of Don King Presents: Prizefighter, due in September, is going to include support for the Wii Fit balance board. This is the first 3rd party title, to my knowledge, that plans to support the new accessory and I am optimistic about the direction they are headed. The board will not be used in actual boxing matches, but rather for training elements such as a jump rope game and push ups. Granted, if you wanted to, you could just jump rope or do push ups, but the balance board mini-games seem to be an interesting combination of physical activity and in-game progress. I’m sure that by completing certain balance board games, one is rewarded with a stats boosts.

On the positive side, the developers are smart enough to make the board optional and leave it out of the core element of the game. The in-game feedback from the mini-games is a good way to encourage use of the peripheral. On the negative side, it could very well be a gimmick. There isn’t a “waggle” equivalent, but I’m sure somebody will invent a word soon enough.

“Wiggle”…? Forget that I said anything.

I’m more interested in “We Ski”. The skiing/snowboarding/surfing dynamic seems like the perfect use of the balance board.

You can’t jump on the wii balance board if i remember correctly right? Wii Fit instructs users to not jump on their mini games.
