Racers complaining about Mario Kart cheats

Unbeatable race times are starting to appear on Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii leaderboards, apparently exploiting a bug in the game. This time, it’s not a semi-legitamate technique like the “snaking” used in Mario Kart DS, but an oversight where drivers can complete one lap of a three-lap race, then back up to cross the finish line again.
It’s hard to believe that such an obvious exploit could make it in to the final version of the game, and it’s even more of a problem for a Wii title as there is no easy way for Nintendo to patch the problem.
Nintendo is looking in to ways to deal with the issue, deleting the faked scores and could possibly begin banning at some point.
As one of the Wii’s first titles to feature a global leaderboard as an integral part of the game, this problem is a significant black eye that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
