The potential triumphant return of Tecmo Bowl

Posted by IronPirate

When it comes to football games, Tecmo Bowl can be considered my first and only true love. Even today, if I were given a chance to play Tecmo Bowl or preview the new Madden NFL, I would choose Tecmo. In my opinion, it is more of a football game than Madden with respect to the word “game”. The latest iterations of Madden feel more like simulators than they do games. This isn’t meant to discredit the Madden series in any way. In fact, I find Madden to capture the essence of professional football to an unparalleled degree and present it in a solid game, albeit one geared more toward hardcore football fans. For sheer instant entertainment with some semblance of football, I have always turned to Tecmo Bowl.

I’m sure that by now you can understand my reaction when I heard that Tecmo Bowl is to premiere on the DS this fall. (It slightly resembled my 3-year-old cousin’s reaction to Hannah Montanna tickets.) While virtually no information has been released, I am maintaining a positive attitude. Some have made complaints that the title should have been for the Wii, but I disagree. Tecmo Bowl ideally fits the DS formula of “pick up, enjoy, put down”.
